The Paramedic Method
Revive your writing by eliminating weak constructions
The 7 Steps:
- Circle the prepositions (of, in, about, for, onto, into)
- Draw a box around the "is" verb forms (is, are, was, were, being, been)
- Ask, "Where's the action?"
- Change the "action" into a simple verb
- Move the doer into the subject (Who's kicking whom?)
- Eliminate any unnecessary slow wind-ups
- Eliminate any redundancies
💡 Tips for Better Writing:
- Look for hidden verbs in nouns (e.g., "make a decision" → "decide")
- Replace weak "there is/are" constructions with active verbs
- Put the most important information at the beginning of sentences
- Eliminate unnecessary words like "in order to," "the fact that," "it is"
- Use concrete, specific nouns instead of abstract ones
