Using Claude.ai, students will create an HTML/Javascript program that they find useful or interesting. The program could be a mobile game, an application that solves an annoying computer problem that you have always wanted to solve, an art project, a bookmarklet, a browser extension, a personal website, or a tool that you might use in your future career.
This is not a computer science class, but composition is always connected to the dominant forms of technology in a society, whether that’s the printing press or the computer. This assignment tests your ability to use AI as a tool for problem-solving instead of a plagiarism machine. It will also force you to think through your ideas, troubleshoot errors, understand the limitations of AI, and overall learn how to use your computer better.
Submit your complete program as an HTML file (or, in the case of a browser extension or bookmarklet, a zip file). Students should provide some explanation for the intended use of their program if it isn’t self-explanatory.
If you are ethically against the use of AI, be consoled by the fact that this assignment could ultimately create a tool that is an alternative or replacement for its use.
